The Gaiety Theatre Late Night Club, an institution on Dublin's live music scene, is 11 years old. The Theatre first opened its door's to night-owls in 1994 when it hosted the Festival Club for the Dublin Theatre Festival. From these beginnings, the club organically grew. Since then, over half a million people have been through the doors of this after-midnight venue, to enjoy live bands and dance into the small hours on all three floors of its Victorian splendour. Over the last two years, owners Denis and Caroline Desmond have invested over million in restoring the interiors of this beautiful theatre. Now the final tweaks to decor, branding, lighting, sound improvements and services for the club are complete.
With three floors of live music and entertainment, DJ's, movie-screenings, comfy seating and Dublin's latest serving licence (serving until 4am), PLAY at the Gaiety Theatre is a sensory over-load on three levels. The new club will continue to beat out the best of alternative sounds in Latin, Reggae, Jazz and Soul and mix in some Rock, Pop and Blues to keep the punters on their feet. New acts, like The Groove, Two Time Polka and The Flying Monkies have been introduced alongside house favourites such as Cantaloupe, Mivian, Seamsie, Salsa Brava, Mary Stokes etc.. 'Our aim is to introduce new bands and DJ's every month,' says Hugo Jellett, the owner of Gaitey.
The launch of PLAY is a significant development for the Gaiety Theatre's club. Music connoisseurs and late night revellers are expected to embrace PLAY whole-heartedly.
