Description: The National Chamber Choir of Ireland (NCC) embodies the spirit of today's Ireland; confidently forward looking while continuing to respect strong traditional values.

The National Chamber Choir

The Choir was founded in 1991 by Composer and Conductor, Colin Mawby. Warmth and flexibility have characterised the sound of the group from the beginning. This unique quality was nurtured by its founder from the outset and has been built on by its current artistic director, Celso Antunes, who has added an extra element of energy and dynamism to the group's performances. These attributes are consistently remarked on by audiences and critics alike.

The National Chamber Choir of Ireland (NCC) has a strong reputation for memorable performances, of exceptional musicality and vocal virtuosity. Words, their internal music and layered meanings, have sparked the imagination of composers through the ages. The NCC's Autumn programme pays tribute to the motet's marriage of text with music, and to the musical words of William Shakespeare.

There is more to Motets and the Bard than beautiful pieces of music by great composers. The programme sets out to explore the realm of words and music by looking at how text has been transformed into music over the last
centuries. Motet 'a polyphonic choral composition used as an anthem in the Roman Catholic service.
