Review: An Unfinished Life is adapted from Mark Spragg novel with the same name. The story lies on Einar, who is still in shock from his only son's death a decade ago, Einar has let his ranch fall into wreck along with his marriage. Now, Einar spends his days caring only for Mitch, his hired handyman and last trusted friend, who was austerely injured in a bump with a grizzly bear.
Einar plans to live out his days in this inconsolable solitude, until his daughter-in-law Jean, the very person he blames for his son's accident, comes to town. Jean shows up insolvent, on the trot with a girl named Griff, who she affirms is the granddaughter of Einar, who, in contrast, never knew he had any grand daughter. All of a sudden, Einar's hushed life is turned upside down as rage and allegations re-emerge. But gradually, phenomenally, 11 year-old Griff's inquisitiveness about Western life, and her craving for a family and a father figure, begin to break off the stone that Einar's heart has become, opening up the way for unpredicted bond, venture, compassion and true reunion.
MPAA Rating: PG-13 for some violence, including domestic abuse, and language.
