Review: Freedom Writers is an uplifting movie about accepting the differences of others. It tells the true story of how one teacher changed the outlook of a group of students during one of the worst outbreaks of racial gang warfare in Los Angeles.

Erin Gruwel (Hilary Swank) is a decent and idealistic teacher at Wilson High School who has to teach a group of students with only one thing in common, their hatred for each other.

Notwithstanding her students' qualms, Erin tries various means to engage them.

She persuades her students to pen their daily thoughts and experiences in journals. This intriguing activity helps them to learn about their own and each other's experiences. They grow to realise that they are not as different as they first thought.

The movie "Freedom Writers" conveys a strong message. No matter what your background, you should aim high.
