Review
The Hill of Howth, which spectacularly dominates the Northside of Dublin Bay, is a major recreational area. For holiday-makers, its adjacency to the city centre is a welcome convenience which is enhanced by fast-track train access called The Dart.
Alighting from the train after a nine-mile journey, you take two steps - (1) over the Bloody Stream and (2) into a quality resort environment which includes a yachting marina, fishing port, mini parkland facility and delightful harbour strolling areas. Puzzled by the Bloody Stream mention? Relax.
It is the name of a fascinating pub-cum-fish restaurant located on the lower ground floor of the railway station. Owned by a member of the local legendary Wright family, it is 'a must visit' for visitors who wish to participate in a truly Irish pub experience with the natives!
It is a popular rendezvous with young people and its fish menu is of top quality. How and why? It carries the Wright imprimatur!
Howth village has old world charm and Howth Head has two golf courses - Deerpark, located in the grounds of Howth Castle is a public course - and both enjoy panoramic coastal scenes and seascapes. Botany-interested visitors can enjoy a breath-taking cliff-side array of rhododendron blossoms.
Boat trips to Ireland’s Eye, an off shore island, are also available for seafaring island hoppers. |
