Description: The National Gallery of Ireland houses the national collection of Irish art and European master paintings. Admission to the permanent collection is free.
The purpose of the National Gallery of Ireland is to display, conserve, manage, interpret and develop the National Collection; to enhance enjoyment and appreciation of the visual arts and to enrich the cultural, artistic and intellectual life of present and future generations.
Public areas of the Gallery are accessible by lifts to all levels and wheelchairs are available on request for mobility impaired visitors. An Access guide to the Gallery is available from the Information Desk, as well as a Guide in Braille. Two Tactile Picture Sets for the visually impaired are available on loan from the Information Desk. In addition, the Lecture Theatre and one multimedia unit are equipped with a loop system to help hearing impaired visitors. One low-level telephone is situated on the ground floor. A parking bay for disabled drivers is situated outside the Gallery gates.
Rules for visitors to the Gallery
Visitors are not allowed to touch the paintings, sculpture or furniture.
Visitors are not allowed to use cameras, video equipment and mobile phones.
Smoking, eating and drinking in the Gallery are forbidden.
You should contact the Education Department if you want permission to sketch and paint.
Rooms can be subject to unavoidable short-term closure without notice
