German artist Hermann Wagner has put together some forty paintings from his latest body of work for his upcoming exhibition, Labyrinth at Gallery 53 in Dublin's Capel Street.
Born in 1942 in the city of Furth, Wagner developed a keen interest in art at an early age. Later he studied art in 1961, attending the Albert Durer Art college in Nuremberg for four years. It was here that he began to develop his expressionistic style. He interprets every day objects in his own way and fuels them with an astonishing contemporary feel, playing with both light and perspective in many of his pieces.
Wagner visited Ireland in 1965 with a painter friend and fell in love with it. He now spends many months each year travelling around the Irish countryside in his mobile studio, enjoying the opportunity to paint outside. A number of landscape paintings from his travels will be included in his show.
