Description: As part of EU Culture 2000 St. Patrick's Festival have partnered up with children from several European cities to look at cultural identity based on the theme Myths and Legends. The project will culminate in a specially designed pageant for St Patrick's Festival Parade on March 17th and a separate night event on the Liffey on March 18th.

Culture 2000 – Legendary Creatures - St. Patrick's Festival is partnering the cities of Krakow & Lodz in Poland, Prague in Czech Republic, Setubal in Portugal and Newcastle Emlyn in Wales in an EU Culture 2000 project looking at cultural identity based on the theme Myths and Legends. Children and young people in Dublin, and the other participant countries will learn about European myths which will inspire their work on the project.
In Dublin the project will culminate in a specially designed pageant for St Patrick's Festival Parade on March 17th and a separate night event on the Liffey on March 18th. A number of specially made inflatables in the parade and night event will be based on drawings by children involved in the project.

In Dublin St Patrick's Festival is working with 5th class children from Dublin 7 Educate Together National School and Transition Year Students from Firhouse Community College. Since December the children and young people have been participating in storytelling, mask making and performance workshops and will perform their pageant 'Legendary Creatures' in St Patrick's Festival Parade with visiting performers from Poland. Artists from the other partner countries Wales, Czech Republic and Portugal will facilitate special myths & legends workshops for children and parents as part of the Big Day Out programme on March 19th.
