Circus Season forms part of the annual Diversions Festival,which sees Temple Bar transformed into a circus arena for the next six weeks. There are performances from the best of outdoor street circus from both Ireland and abroad including jugglers, clowns, acrobats, street theatre and other spectacular acts. Organised by Temple Bar Cultural Trust (TBCT), in association with Dublin City Council, the Circus Season programme includes:-
Sunday Circus (Every Sunday from 1st July – 12th August)
Street theatre, music, circus and other spectacular acts perform their masterpieces especially created for young audiences and families of all ages every Sunday on Meeting House Square.
Circus Week (Sunday 15th – Sunday 22nd July [Lunchtime/Evening]
Seven days of spectacular outdoor performances from Irish and international circus acts in the streets and public spaces of Temple Bar. Highlights will include a one-day extravaganza of Irish circus throughout the streets of Temple Bar, the premiere of a new walkabout circus performance called ‘The Sommelliers’ from UK circus pioneers Bongo Bolero, the Fanzini Brothers' new show ‘Deathwish’ plus lunchtime performances in acrobatics, trapeze, magic and stilt walking.
Temple Bar Cultural Trust’s (TBCT) Diversions Festival is Ireland’s largest and longest running outdoor festival and includes dramatic circus performances, street entertainment, jazz concerts, Jameson Movies on the Square, short film and outdoor opera. Diversions Festival 2007 will involve the participation of over 100 performers from 12 different countries around the world and is expected to attract over 300,000 people.
