The Phoenix Park is one a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. Made up of over 700 hectares (1752 acres) in area the Phoenix Park is the largest enclosed public Park in any capital city in Europe.

Phoenix Park When you visit Dublin next, the Phoenix Park is one of Dublin's must see tourist attractions. It is one of the largest and most magnificent city parks in Europe. A lively and entertaining exhibition on the history and wildlife of the Phoenix Park is on display in the Visitor Centre. Here visitors can receive information and enjoy a historical interpretation of the park from 3500BC to the present day. There is a special section for children which allows them to explore the wonders of forest life. Temporary exhibitions are also regularly on display in the centre.

Adjoining the Visitor Centre is the fully restored Ashtown Castle, a medieval tower house that probably dates before the 17th century. The castle had been incorporated into an 18th century mansion and was 'rediscovered' when this building was demolished due to dry rot.

There are lots of things to do in Dublin's Phoenix Park, a visit must include a trip to Aras an Uachtarain, thePapal Cross residence of the President of Ireland and the building dates back as far 1750. The impressive Papal Cross which was erected for the visit of Pope John Paul 2nd in 1979. The world famous Dublin Zoo and the Victorian People's Flower Gardens which comprises of an area of 9 hectares and shows of victorian horticulture at its best.

January-mid March: Saturday-Sunday: 10am-5pm
Mid-end March: Daily: 10am-5.30pm
April-September: Daily: 10am-6pm
October: Daily 10am-5pm
November-December: Saturday-Sunday: 10am-5pm

Approximate duration of visit: 1 hour.
Last admission 50 minutes before closure.

Admission to Phoenix Park is free.

Free guided tours every Saturday to Aras an Uachtarain: 10.30am-4.30pm every day on the hour.

Tickets available at the Visitor Centre on that day. Entry to the Castle is by guided tour only.

Minimum group number 20.

Audio-visual presentation, exhibitions, toilets, disabled toilets, car/coach park and restaurant/picnic tables.
